As it states above: “The olinguito (Bassaricyon neblina) came close to being discovered several times during the past century and was even exhibited in zoos. For example, this female olinguito lived in various zoos in the U.S. decades ago. The problem was a case of mistaken identity.” To answer your question curious mom I’m sure they know the age. Only reason why its a new discovery is because they now understand it’s a different species than what they had assumed before.
